Description All accommodation and travel is by charter yacht in the protected waters of the beautiful Whitsunday Island group. This Early Cretaceous Silicic Large Igneous Province with its large extrusive volume led to a different style of volcanic rifted margin. Visit spectacular views of tilted and partly exhumed volcanic sequences.
Highlights Great Barrier Reef World Heritage area, Whitehaven Beach, yacht charter, marine life.

Notes Specific joining instructions apply to this field trip and will be provided upon receipt and confirmation of trip booking.   Shared cabin accommodation only onboard yacht. All cabins have air-conditioning and ensuites.

This field trip can be booked with a flight from Brisbane to the start point of the field trip inclusive.

If booked with the field trip then your flight will be confirmed as part of the IGC seats allocated on flights .

If you book without the flight it will be the responsibility of the delegate to book the flight to return to the start point of the field trip from Brisbane.

These seats cannot be booked as part of the IGC allocation and you will only have the publicly available seats on the flight.

Itinerary
Day 1 Brisbane to Whitsundays Saturday 11th August
  Delegates make own way to Brisbane airport for own flight arrangements to Proserpine where you will be met and transferred to Abel Point Marina in Airlie Beach to board your boat; a large sailing vessel with private, air-conditioned cabins with ensuites.
  Meals: D Overnight: Boat moored at South Molle Island
 
Day 2 Whitsundays Sunday 12th August
  View volcanic geology around South Molle Island.
  Meals: B/L /D Overnight: Boat moored at South Molle Island
 
Day 3 Whitsundays Monday 13th August
  Sail to Hamilton Island where you will examine volcanic geology around Catseye Bay.
Continue on to Whitehaven Beach for overnight anchorage.

Day 4 Whitsundays Tuesday 14th August
  View the volcanic geology of South East Whitsunday Island before returning to Whitehaven Beach for the night.

Day 5 Whitsundays Wednesday 15th August
  Today you will see the volcanic Geology of Hill Inlet and Tongue Point on Whitsunday Island and Esk Island then return to Whitehaven Beach for the night.

Day 6 Whitsundays Thursday 16th August
  Spend the day sailing and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef before mooring at Hayman Island for the night.

Day 7 Whitsundays Thursday 16th August
  Return to Abel Point Marina and disembark. Own arrangements for onward travel.

Important Notes:
  This field trip is not suitable for children. This trip will involve visiting coastal outcrops that may be hazardous and require moderate level of fitness.
Equipment Required:
  Participants should be prepared for hot or cool wet weather. Swimsuit recommended and sun hat, rain coat, soft sneakers or boat shoes and strong walking shoes are essential.
